Monica Goh was born in 1990. She grew up in Carindale with her parents and her younger sister, and attended St Martin’s Primary School in Carina.

Monica attended Lourdes Hill College from 2003-2007, and has happy memories of her school life.

The College’s social justice program was something that Monica valued about Lourdes Hill, noting that “everyone was really involved” in making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

“I also appreciated how much [Lourdes Hill] valued academics. The awards ceremonies each semester were really encouraging,” she said.

As a high achieving student with particular strengths in science and maths, one of Monica’s teachers sent her on an Engineering Day of Excellence during her senior years at Lourdes Hill. The experience opened up an exciting avenue for Monica, and she decided to pursue a career in engineering.
Monica enrolled in a Chemical Engineering degree at The University of Queensland after graduating from Lourdes Hill, and during her studies, was provided with an opportunity to undertake vocational work with Australia’s leading gas and oil producer, Santos.

Her work experience with Santos led to Monica being offered a place in the company’s graduate program following her 2011 graduation, and Monica was one of a small very number of Santos graduates to be posted overseas, to the Philippines, for one of her rotations.

Now based in Australia, Monica is gaining experience as a ‘fly-in-fly-out’ engineer, working on a site outside of Roma, in regional Queensland.

She hopes that her career will continue to provide her with opportunities to travel, and see how her industry operates in other countries around the world.
